Law & Public Safety Pathway
The Law and Public Safety program prepares individuals to apply theories and practices of organization management and criminal justice to the administration of public law enforcement agencies and operations. The Law and Public Safety program includes instruction in law enforcement history and theory, operational command leadership, administration of public police organizations, labor relations, incident response strategies, legal and regulatory responsibilities, budgeting, public relations, and organizational leadership.
Law and Public Safety students develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through participation in the state-recognized Career and Technical Student Organizations, SkillsUSA. The program prepares students for entry-level employment, further training, and/or post-secondary education for these and other occupations: Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Teacher, Investigation and Security Service, Intelligence Analyst, Loss Prevention Managers, Protection Officer, and Asset Protection Specialist.
Law & Public Safety 1 | This first-year course is an overview of the history and organization of local, state and federal law enforcement, including the practice and application of law and terminology of law enforcement. This course explains the elements of crime and criminal law, the goals of corrections, constitutional law, and public security. This course also includes segments of courtroom procedures, including a mock trial and discussion in the career fields of crime scene investigation, forensics and emergency communications. |

Law & Public Safety 2 | This course reviews the application of law and functions of law enforcement for preparation of a career in law enforcement. This second-year course covers practical applications of policing such as ethical responsibilities, use of force, and crime scene security. Students will conduct hands-on applications involving necessary equipment for handcuffing, crime scene preservation, vehicle searches and fingerprinting. Students will become completers in the program by passing a state technical assessment and receive a certificate from Arizona Department of Education. |
