Law & Public Safety Pathway
The Law and Public Safety program trains individuals in managing public law enforcement agencies. It covers law enforcement history, operational leadership, police organization administration, labor relations, incident response, legal responsibilities, budgeting, public relations, and organizational leadership.
Law and Public Safety students enhance leadership and career skills through SkillsUSA, a state-recognized Career and Technical Student Organization. This program prepares them for entry-level jobs, further training, or post-secondary education in fields such as Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Intelligence Analysis, and Asset Protection.
Program Completer:
- Students must have completed 2 years of Law and Public Safety courses.
DCE Law and Public Safety:
- Must be a program completer.
- This course employs Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, where one teacher oversees multiple program areas, to integrate school-based and supervised work experiences aligned with the Law and Public Safety Program standards.
Law & Public Safety 1 | This first-year course covers the history and organization of law enforcement at local, state, and federal levels. It includes topics such as crime elements, criminal law, corrections goals, constitutional law, public security, courtroom procedures, and features a mock trial. Additionally, it explores career fields like crime scene investigation, forensics, and emergency communications. |

Law & Public Safety 2 | This second-year course equips students for law enforcement careers by covering legal applications and policing practices, including ethics, use of force, and crime scene security. Students participate in hands-on training for handcuffing, crime scene preservation, vehicle searches, and fingerprinting. Completion requires passing a state technical assessment and obtaining a certificate from the Arizona Department of Education. |
Law & Public Safety 3 | This advanced third-year course in the Law and Public Safety Program equips students for entry-level jobs and further education in Criminal Justice, Emergency Telecommunications, Investigation, Security Service, and Detention careers. Students can earn national certification as a Public Safety Telecommunicator through APCO and obtain additional certifications from FEMA. |
Criminal Law and Procedure | This semester-long course provides students with knowledge and skills related to understanding criminal law, constitutional amendments, and due process. It is designed for those who may be interested in legal careers such as an attorney, judge, paralegal, or court reporter, or those just interested in learning more about our legal system. |
