Fire Service Pathway

The Fire Service program focuses on managing fire operations and community fire issues, covering topics such as fire protection history, incident command, public administration, emergency medical services, fire response strategies, legal responsibilities, budgeting, public relations, and organizational leadership.

The Fire Service instructional program equips students for entry-level jobs and further training in roles such as Firefighter, Wildlife Firefighter, and EMT. Students gain leadership, social, civic, and career skills through participation in SkillsUSA, a state-recognized Career and Technical Student Organization.

Program Completer:

  • Students must complete at least 2 Fire Service courses.

 

DCE Fire Service:

  • Must be a program completer.
  • This course employs a Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, with one teacher overseeing students across various program areas to integrate school-based and supervised work-based learning for the Fire Service Program standards.
Fire Service  This course prepares students for careers in the Fire Service by teaching academic, employability, and technical skills aligned with industry standards. It employs current principles from national and state consortiums through integrated classroom instruction and practical applications. Students will also explore the theme of “Being an 11” in relation to LWHS and community service.
Fire Service Advanced Applications This course builds on Fire Service fundamentals, equipping students with advanced knowledge and skills for various settings. Graduates will be ready to work in teams, solve problems, think critically, and implement effective solutions in the fire service.
WAVE Fire Academy The Fire Academy is available to qualifying high school seniors. Classes are held Monday to Thursday from 1:15-3:15 PM, with some Fridays. Students need to complete an application, undergo an interview, and be accepted. There are no prerequisites.
