Fire Service Pathway
Fire Service program focuses on the principles, theory, and practices associated with the management of fire operations, firefighting services, and community fire issues. The Fire Service program includes instruction in fire protection history and theory, incident command leadership, administration of public fire organizations, labor relations, emergency medical services management, fire emergency response strategies and mitigation, legal and regulatory responsibilities, budgeting, public relations, and organizational leadership.
The Fire Service instructional program prepares students for entry-level employment, further training, and/or post-secondary education for these and other occupations: Firefighter, Wildlife Firefighter, and EMT. Fire Service students develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through participation in the state-recognized Career and Technical Student Organizations, SkillsUSA.
Fire Service | This course introduces students to careers in Fire Service and prepares them to apply academic, employability and technical knowledge and skills related to common industry standards and practices of the Fire Service. The program utilizes current principles and practices, identified and established by national and state consortiums, to provide technical knowledge and skills that are associated with careers in the fire service. An integrated approach to teaching and learning utilizes classroom instruction of knowledge and practical application of skills. Students will also be introduced to the theme of “Being an 11” and how it relates to LWHS and service to the community. |

Fire Service Advanced Applications | This course is a continuation of Fire Service and prepares students to apply advanced academic and technical knowledge and skills in a variety of settings within Fire Service. Students completing the program will be prepared to participate in teams, solve problems, think critically and implement effective solutions and they gain knowledge and skills associated with the fire service. |
WAVE Fire Academy | The Fire Academy is open to any high school seniors who qualify for release time. Classes are Monday - Thursday from 1:15-3:15 and some Fridays. Students must fill out a Fire Academy Application, be interviewed and accepted into the program. There are no prerequisites for this program. |
