Nursing Pathway

The Nursing Services program is designed and delivered as a coherent sequence of school-based and work-based supervised learning. The Nursing Services students develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through participation in the Career and Technical Student Organization HOSA (Future Health Professionals).

The Nursing Services instructional program prepares students for entry-level employment, further training, and/or post-secondary education for these and other occupations: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), Patient Care Technician, Patient Care Assistant, and Caregiver.

Program Completer:

  • Students must have completed Medical Foundations and NAP 115.

OR

  • Student must have completed Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology at MCC and NAP 115.

Industry Certifications:

  • Can earn CNA if a student takes the NAP course at MCC or follows another WAVE program.

 

CTE/DC Medical Foundations A/B Students will learn key medical root words, prefixes, and suffixes vital for their careers, studying body systems like the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, and special senses in the first semester. The second semester will focus on the nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, lymphatic, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive systems.
Medical Terminology-MCC Course This course is for future healthcare professionals, focusing on medical vocabulary related to body systems, anatomy, medical processes, and diseases. It emphasizes application, spelling, definition, usage, and pronunciation.
Anatomy and Physiology- MCC Course Concepts of Anatomy and Physiology of the human body. This course examines all 11 body systems including basic concepts of human biology, biochemistry, cytology, histology and pathology. Emphasis will be placed on structure, processes and vocabulary for each body system, as required in allied health professions.
WAVE Nursing Pathway: Practical Nursing (PN) Certificate Students must take the following courses: BIO 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology I, BIO 202 Human Anatomy & Physiology II, NAP 115 Nursing Assistant, NUR 101 Fundamentals of Nursing Education, NUR 103 Fundamentals of Nursing Education, NUR 111 Medical Surgical Nursing I, NUR 124 Pediatrics in Nursing, NUR 125 Obstetrics in Nursing, NUR 126 Mental Health Nursing. **Courses are offered at MCC.**
WAVE Nursing Pathway: AAS Nursing Degree requirement Students must take the following courses: BIO 205 Microbiology, COM 121 Interpersonal Communications, NUR 212 Medical Surgical Nursing II. **Courses are offered at MCC.**
WAVE 13th year Students are welcome to take any PN or AAS courses not taken in high school, NUR 213 Medical Surgical Nursing III, and Nursing 250 Nursing Capstone. **Courses are offered at MCC.**
