LAN 0101/0102: Spanish I A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

This is a beginning study of Spanish with an emphasis on vocabulary and basic grammar. (LAN0101 must be completed before LAN 102).

LAN 0201/0202: Spanish II A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

This is a continuation of Spanish 1 with emphasis on vocabulary, more complex grammar, writing and conversation. (LAN0201 must be completed before LAN0202).

LAN 0401/0402: American Sign Language I A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

ASL 1 is a visual-spatial language rather than a spoken one and is taught in a full immersion classroom. It is strictly taught in ASL and voice off environment. The communication emphasis is on expressive skills (signing) and receptive skills (watching and comprehending) in order to understand and communicate with others.

LAN 0403/0404: American Sign Language II A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

ASL 2 is a visual-spatial language rather than a spoken one and is taught in a full immersion classroom. It is strictly taught in ASL and voice off environment. The communication emphasis is on expressive skills (signing) and receptive skills (watching and comprehending) in order to understand and communicate with others. ASL 2 students learn to communicate, comprehend, and present on very familiar topics using isolated words and high frequency phrases in the context of Culture, Connections, Community, Comparisons and Communication by expanding on the vocabulary.

LAN 0405/0406: American Sign Language III A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

ASL 3 is a visual-spatial language rather than a spoken one and is taught in a full immersion classroom. It is strictly a voice off environment. The emphasis is on expressive skills (signing) and receptive skills (comprehending). ASL 3 focuses more on practical and high level application of the language. This course builds on level 1 and 2 and makes a full circle of what has been taught and applying it.

LANC 101/102: IGCSE Spanish 1 A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

Cambridge IGCSE Spanish 1 develops a set of transferable skills for understanding and communicating in everyday situations in Spanish. Learners begin to develop cultural awareness of countries and communities where Spanish is spoken. They acquire the essential linguistic skills required for progression to further studies or employment. The syllabus gives students opportunities to develop and apply a wide range of foreign language skills. Candidates will be expected to read and understand a variety of written and spoken texts on familiar topics. Candidates will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the main ideas, opinions and attitudes. They will also have opportunities to write in Spanish on familiar, everyday topics, and to speak the language by taking part in everyday conversations. Students must be highly self motivated to learn the language and culture and willing to sit for the exam.

LANC 201/202: IGCSE Spanish 2 A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

Cambridge IGCSE Spanish 2 is a continuation of IGCSE Spanish 1. Students will develop a set of transferable skills for understanding and communicating in everyday situations in Spanish. Learners begin to develop cultural awareness of countries and communities where Spanish is spoken. They acquire the essential linguistic skills required for progression to further studies or employment. The syllabus gives students opportunities to develop and apply a wide range of foreign language skills. Candidates will be expected to read and understand a variety of written and spoken texts on familiar topics. Candidates will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the main ideas, opinions and attitudes. LANC 305/306, 405/406: AS/A Spanish 3 and 4

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

Cambridge AS/A Spanish offers students an opportunity to gain lifelong skills in learning Spanish, including the ability to communicate confidently and clearly; a sound understanding of the nature of language and language study, and of the skills and abilities required for further study, work and leisure; insight into the culture and contemporary society of countries where the Spanish language is spoken; better integration into the communities where Spanish is spoken, positive attitudes towards language learning, towards the speakers of other languages, and towards other cultures and societies. Skills which can be used in other areas of learning, such as analysis and memory skills. Prerequisites include: Students must be highly self-motivated to learn the language and culture and willing to sit for the exam. Completion of IGCSE Spanish 1 and 2 or instructor approval. This course is recommended for the AICE diploma through Cambridge.
