Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Pathway
The Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation program educates students on human movement analysis and key aspects of sports medicine. Topics include anatomy and physiology of the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems, injury signs and symptoms, and skills in injury prevention and assessment. Students also learn medical terminology and documentation for recording injuries and illnesses.
The Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation program prepares students for entry-level jobs and further education in roles like Personal Trainer, Athletic Trainer Aide, Physical Therapy Aide, Patient Transport Assistant, and Caregiver. Students enhance leadership, social, civic, and career skills through involvement in HOSA (Future Health Professionals).
Program Completer:
- Students must complete at least 2 Sports Medicine courses.
DCE Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation:
- Must be a program completer.
- This course employs a Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, with one teacher overseeing students across various program areas, to integrate school-based and supervised work-based learning experiences aligned with the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Program standards.
Sports Medicine | This course teaches students to prevent, assess, and manage athletic injuries, benefiting those pursuing careers as athletic trainers, physical therapists, nurses, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, coaches, or personal trainers. It emphasizes human anatomy, physiology, and health-related fundamentals, combining theory with practical applications. Prerequisite: Biology (may be concurrent). |

Advanced Sports Medicine | This course emphasizes practical applications of knowledge from MED0262, supplemented by lectures. Participation may be required after school or on weekends. Prerequisite: Sports Medicine A/B. |
Lab Assistant | Students will participate in live job shadowing with local healthcare professionals, including PTs, ATs, and personal trainers. They will apply knowledge from Sports Medicine and Advanced Sports Medicine through hands-on activities and gain real-world experience in health careers. |
CTE/DC Medical Foundations A/B | Students will learn key medical root words, prefixes, and suffixes vital for their careers, studying body systems like the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, and special senses in the first semester. The second semester will focus on the nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, lymphatic, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive systems. |
DC Medical Law and Ethics | DC Medical Law and Ethics (MEA100) is a Dual Credit Course offered with MCC, granting students 0.5 high school credits and 3 college credits. It complements HES 113 in the CTE Medical Foundations curriculum for the Nursing Pathway. |
